About Freedom

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be."
--Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

"While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian."
--The Writings of Washington, pp. 342-343.

As we celebrate freedom, it is essential to remember that our founders, those who drafted the documents on which our liberty is founded, believed that there was only one source of true freedom, and that was in God, our creator.

Only He can free us from all that binds us – our passions, vices, inappropriate thinking, and sinful actions. Only He can release these chains.

True Freedom is only found in Christ.

Today, join me in spending a few moments reflecting on what the Bible says about freedom:

The Truth Will Set You Free

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8: 31-36

Abide in the Word –Read and ponder the Bible.

Pray

Go out in the world and spread the Word—the Truth.

Protect Freedom by honoring God.

Protect Freedom by exercising your faith in the world.

Just as our founders did.
