Starting Each Day Off Right!

We all love New Year’s Day!

New goals!

A fresh start!

We feel this way because each new year is very ceremonial.

The date we write is “new”.

The calendar we use is “new”.

We just concluded the holidays, and we are ready for new beginnings. New excitement.!

But, what if we treated each new day as a new beginning?

What if we brought into each new day this new excitement?

What if we treated each morning when we opened our eyes as a gift? As a new start?

I admit, there are days when I carry the baggage of yesterday—of last week—into the new day. I awaken with the same worries, same concerns, same grudges.

I don’t wake up excited about the new day.

What does God say about the new day?

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-24)..

Let’s reflect on this for a few moments.

In this one snippet of Scripture, we learn that every morning when we awaken, God’s love is there for us. He literally tells us that His love NEVER ceases. It is there when we close our eyes at night. It is there when we sleep. There again for us when we open our eyes and greet then new day. And, His love is there for us as we go through this new day all the way through to the next evening. Never ending!

Next, we learn that His mercies never end. They are new every morning..

What is Mercy?

It is God’s forgiveness and grace. It is His continued promise when we have faith in His Son and rely on His son’s atonement for our sins. Then, when God sees us, He sees us “in” His Son—and so all is forgiven. There is only grace and love.

Lastly, every day we experience His great faithfulness. He is there for us—and always will be. He is faithful in His promises.

Charles Spurgeon said, “The very breath in our nostrils is a proof of His goodness to us; let us, therefore, dear friends, still hope for yet further favors from Him.”

So our challenge—yours and mine—is to wake up every morning and take a deep breath, realizing that the very air we breathe is proof of God’s presence and His goodness. We have a new day! Let’s begin our day—before we even get out of bed—with a prayer of thanksgiving! It can be a simple prayer and can easily be remembered as “LMNF,” - “Let Me Not Forget”.

“Father - thank you for this new day.. Thank you for a clean slate—a fresh start made possibly through your Mercy. I step into this New day and to all you have for me within it. I am excited by all of its possibilities because I know You will be there with me every step of the way, because You are faithful. ”I look forward to all this day holds because of You!”
