It is no accident that you are here—now—right where you are.
But, why are you here?
What are you called to do?
1 Corinthians 12: 27-31 (ESV) states:
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating and various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess the gift of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts.
You might not know what your gift is.
But there are several ways to determine the gift or gifts God has given you:
1. Ask the advice of others who know you
I never thought I was a “leader.” But, when I was younger, my mother said, “Haven’t you noticed, Lisa, that when something needs to get done, you are always the one who jumps in, makes a plan, organizes it and sees it through?”
I hadn’t seen that in myself, but once she said it, I could see it clearly.
2. Pray
Pray that God will reveal your gifts to you. God honors our prayers and wants to reveal our gifts so that we can use them to benefit the Church. He does so in His own time—so be patient and pray!
3. Seek and You Will Find!
Try out new ways to serve. I know for those of us who are introverts, this can be tough. But, try taking on small assignments. Serve as a greeter at church. Help with Sunday School. Offer to help in the kitchen. Read to someone who is shut in. None of these efforts will be wasted. And, you will grow from the experiences.
Remember:
God loves you! In serving Him and others, you can’t lose.
No experience is wasted.
The purpose of learning your gifts is to better understand what you have to share. So, start sharing!
Nothing is wasted that is done for God and His Kingdom.
Whether or not you know your gifts, go out and start sharing!
