They Did What Was Right in Their Own Eyes

They Did What Was Right in Their Own Eyes

Each year, I listen to a daily audio Bible podcast—and complete the Bible in one year. This year marks my sixth year through the Bible.

Why don’t I stop?

Every year, I learn new aspects of the Bible because each year, I am in a different place in my life, and the Holy Spirit speaks to me where I am.

The Bible is always fresh! It is always alive!

It is the only book that has a Living Spirit within it.

Each year, when I get to Judges in the Old Testament, I say, “Oh boy!” because I know what is ahead.

Does Your Pastor Have a Biblical Worldview? (Spoiler:  Most Don’t!)

Does Your Pastor Have a Biblical Worldview? (Spoiler:  Most Don’t!)

Recently, the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University surveyed 1,000 American Christian pastors to understand better the worldviews that drive their thinking and behavior. The survey of these pastors revealed that a large majority do not possess a “biblical worldview.”

What is a biblical worldview?

How to Hear God's Voice

How to Hear God's Voice

It’s interesting, the comments I get on my blog and podcast from unbelievers. Generally, they go something like this:

“Don’t waste my time with this—it’s all a bunch of nonsense.”

“Sad that you have to believe in fairy tales—don’t share them with me.”

These are examples of the tame comments. Some are much worse than these. I’ll leave those to your imagination.

I find it sad, when I read comments such as these, that there really are people who are COMPLETELY out of touch with the Kingdom of God. They only see what is here on this earth.

What Is Truth? And, Why Does it Matter?

What Is Truth? And, Why Does it Matter?

As a child, our truth rests with our parents. They are our truth. They tell us what is right, what is wrong, how we should feel, how we should adapt. They are our true north.

Soon, that true north is challenged. Friends enter our life, and they reflect the truths of their parents and siblings. And sometimes, that truth does not jive with our parents’ truth. Who to believe? At this point, most of us go with our parents, because they are our protectors, and we trust them.

But subtly, over time, we lose that true north. We begin to question what our parents have told us. Other authority figures enter our lives, and we start to wonder, what is truth? Where does it rest? School teachers teach truths that don’t mesh with what we have learned at home. Friends start to challenge our truth—and they make sense. What to believe? Where to go?

Focusing on the Good Plans of God

Focusing on the Good Plans of God

When I think of the book of Ecclesiastes, I think of the depressing perspective Solomon has on life—that it is fleeting (a mist, a vapor, grass) and that our work and all we do is really in vain because life ends and it is all gone. Depressing.

But tonight, in reading Ecclesiastes 3, I realized that Solomon really does see both a good side and a rather bleak side of life:
